The ABC of Wedding Planning

28th March 2018

by Admin

Getting married is one of the most wondrous things in life but planning a wedding can be super stressful so we wrote this blogpost with everything you need to know to plan your dream wedding. Also, you can download our free #Weddingplanning checklist!

18 to 12 Months before the wedding

After you celebrated your engagement it is good to sit with your partner and discuss your wedding plans and how both of you imagine it. Would you like a summer or winter wedding? Would it be themed? Would it be religious or civil? What would the budget be?

Setting the date is super important and super difficult too so spend time on it and select at least 3 possible dates because your venue not being available on your one date is a possibility. This takes us to the next point: choose and book your venue, which will let you send the save-the-date cards so your friends and family have enough time to organise.

One big recommendation we have is to take out a wedding insurance. Yes, they can be a little bit expensive but you never know what could happen so it is better to be covered.

Wedding Planning

12 to 9 Months before the Wedding

Now that you have your date, venue and budget you can start with the joyful task of appointing bridesmaids, best man and ushers. It is good to let them know in advance so they can help you throughout the process.

A few things to book at this stage:

-Videographer and photographer: don’t forget to ask them to show you two of their latest wedding works.

-DJ, band or entertainer: they usually get booked super quick so booking them in advance is always better.

-Florist: have a meeting with them and tell them your ideas and theme. They will help you with flower seasonality and colour schemes.

-Caterers: if your venue doesn’t provide one, book a tasting appointment to help you chose the best option.

-Honeymoon: a fun booking indeed! Discuss with your partner where you would like to go, beach or mountain? City or camping? The options are infinite! Just remember to stay on your budget.

And last but certainly not least, your wedding dress. How do you imagine it? Recollect images that inspire you, cut dresses you found in magazines, everything helps! Then, take everything to your chosen designer who will help you bring it to reality. If having your dress specially made for you is not what you are looking for, start booking appointments in bridal shops so you can try several options until you found ‘the one’.

Wedding Planing

9 to 6 Months before the Wedding

These three months are a little bit more relaxed, with a few tasks on your to-do list:

-Order wedding invitations: choose a design and the tone of voice you want your invitations to have. Don’t forget to include an RSVP card where your guests can, apart from confirming their assistance, choose their dietary restrictions.

-Wedding shoes and accessories: now that you have your wedding dress sorted it is time to choose the shoes. Would you go for a classic bridal white? Or would you rock a bright blue colour a la Carrie Bradshaw? Also, it is time to choose your jewellery, some delicate diamond stud earrings are always a classic and safe choice. You can also choose a sapphire necklace to be your ‘something blue’.

-Order your wedding cake. You could go traditional or out-of-the-box a stack of doughnuts style. The world is your oyster!

-Makeup artist and hairdresser: book a trial to see how your chosen makeup and hairstyle look on you.

-Plan a fun date with your bridesmaids and go dress hunting. They could also help you get the groomswear, flower girls and page boys sorted!

Wedding Planning

6 to 3 Months before the Wedding

The wedding day is getting closer but don’t panic you have everything under control! There are a few things you need to get sorted during these months:

-Book your honeymoon suite. Ask for some rose petals to be thrown on the bed and a bottle of champagne.

-Wedding rings: you could go for classic yellow gold wedding rings or sparkle things up by adding a few diamonds to the design. You can also have your band bespokely made to fit your engagement ring.

-Send wedding invitations: these will give enough time to your guests to arrange their agendas and make any travel arrangement if needed.

-Start writing your vows: this could be either easy-peasy or you could have some serious writer’s block so better to start early.

-Order your wedding décor for your venue and table pieces. Don’t forget to consult your florist so everything looks aligned.

 -Have your wedding dress altered.

-Set up your wedding gift list: you could select your favourite store or why not choosing an NGO organization and ask your guests to donate to the chosen cause.

Wedding Planning

1 Month before the Wedding

Now is time for final touches and double-checking everything but also time to enjoy your last month as a single person!

-Buy gifts for your bridesmaids, best man and ushers: you can personalise their gifts to make it extra special.

-Confirm your wedding arrangements with all your suppliers: ask them to go through all the details, dates and timing with you.

-Schedule a final fitting for your wedding dress.

-Write the wedding speeches: did you know you can have it written by professionals? So if writing is not your forte, this is an excellent option!

-Contact guests that haven’t RSVP’d yet.

 -Finalise your sitting plan

And have your hen/stag party and enjoy your last nights of freedom!

Wedding Planning

1 Week before the Wedding

-Have the wedding rehearsal: is always good to be prepared and know where you should stand or when to speak. This will help you feel less nervous on the day.

-Collect any hired suits: don’t forget to let the best man know when they need to be returned.

-Have your hair trimmed and/or coloured: nothing drastic, now is not the time to try that hair colour you saw on Pinterest.

-Start wearing your wedding shoes: this will help you avoid any pain on the actual day.

-Create a supplier list with all their contacts and times they are meant to arrive to your designated person.

-Pack for your honeymoon and leave everything ready so you don’t have to worry after the wedding.

The Day before the Wedding

The most amazing day of your life is about to happen so it is good to avoid any stress. Just get a manicure and pedicure, watch a funny movie and go to bed early.

Hopefully this blog post will help you organise the wedding of your dreams. You can download our wedding checklist here.
