If ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ was the phrase from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, ‘Frost Yourself’ is the one from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The story goes like this: she (Kate Hudson) is an advice columnist at a women’s magazine who thinks she can lose a guy in 10 days and him (Matthew McConaughey) is an advertisement executive who thinks he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Of course, they met and their plans failed.
Both find out about each other’s bet during a party that was celebrating diamonds. Everyone invited was offered to wear diamond jewellery but Andie (Kate Hudson) gets offered this showstopper necklace called Isadora. This necklace features a yellow diamond and it was the most expensive piece of jewellery ever created for a movie, worth about 5 million dollars. Fun fact: an estimated of 14 million dollars worth of jewellery that was lent for the movie.
Everything in this movie was luxurious and decadent but Nicole Kidman’s iconic diamond necklace was from another world. The necklace was made of 1.308 diamonds by an Australian jeweller and was gifted to Satine (Nicole Kidman) by a gentlemen suitor. But even though she loves it, as her suitor puts the necklace around her neck, she couldn’t help but think how this necklace meant a life without passion and love.
